THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE VISION
Mary's Closet was born from a legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering faith.
Mary was a nurse who dedicated her life to caring for others. Whether nurturing her family, comforting a friend, or helping a stranger, she served with a heart full of love and generosity. Her life reflected the belief that everyone deserves dignity, kindness, and support during life's most difficult moments.
After courageously battling lung cancer, Mary passed away, but her spirit of compassion continues to inspire the mission of Mary's Closet every day.
Years later, founder Tamara Shinn faced her own battle with pancreatic cancer that metastasized to her liver. Through that journey, she experienced firsthand the power of faith, community, and human kindness. Those experiences deepened her commitment to serving others and reinforced a simple truth:
"Everyone needs somebody."
Today, Mary's Closet exists to carry forward a legacy of love by restoring dignity, confidence, and hope to individuals and families throughout our community.
